Hand lettering was the result of having to produce logos on a limited budget. What began in 1977 as a way to offset the high cost of Presstype, and a dissatisfaction with type as it existed, soon became a passion and then a profession. Rendering many fonts for myself led to a job as a type designer for Mergenthaler Linotype. In the days before computers very few designers could get along without having access to a hand-letterer.
